Component choice

One phenomena experienced especially in vacuum tube amplfiers is the strong influence of component choice. For instance the type of capacitors and resistors chosen can have a major impact on the sound. Here at Q-tron Audio we have investigated the reasons behind this behaviour and have come to some interesting conclusions. Some results of our research is presented at Low Tension Capacitor Coupling, LTCC.

Components must also be choosen together, the combination of components is much more important than the individual one, this explains the sometimes disappointing results when tube amplifiers are upgraded using expensive "designer components"

Capacitors must be carefully selected if they are subjected to high voltage gradients.

"Designer" components usually give bad value for money, it is possible to find better and cheaper components if you know what to look for.
